The defending FRCC champion Bay Port Pirates took the field Friday night for the first time since their loss to Arrowhead High School in the WIAA State semifinals last year.

They traveled to Green Bay Preble High School for a matchup with the Hornets. Andrew Slick started his first game at Quarterback for the PIrates, replacing star QB Alec Ingold from last season.

After a scoreless opening 12 minutes, the Pirates scored at the 10:16 mark in the second quarter. The 20 yard touchdown run by junior Paxton Pelegrin was the lone score in the first half.

Preble scored their first touchdown of the season on a 30 yard pass at the 5:37 mark in the third quarter. Tied at 7, Bay Port answered with a scoring drive of their own that ended in an Austin Sylvester 14 yard touchdown to put the Pirates up 14-7. That score would put the Pirates up for good. Quinn Pierner ran for a 20 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to make it 21-7. Preble added a late score to make the scoreline 21-14 as the final score.

Pierner led the way on the ground and air for the Pirates, completing 5-11 passes for 76 yards, and rushing for another 63 yards yards on 12 attempts and a touchdown. Austin Sylvester had an additional 33 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. Logan White led the Pirates in receiving with 34 yards on his lone catch of the game.

Last season, the Pirates punted 16 times in their 12 games. Friday night, they punted 7 times.  Friday the Pirates travel to Sheboygan North for another Fox River Classic Conference game.
